What is a Fire Risk Assessment Report?

A Fire Risk Assessment report is undertaken by a Fire Safety Engineer and could take various forms depending on the requirement of the project.

We most commonly undertake Combustible Recyclable and Waste Material (CRWM) Fire Risk Assessment Reports.

These reports consist of a site inspection to identify hazards of the site and then determine risk. We then provide recommendations for improvements to the site's fire safety strategy in line with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) requirements.

What is a Fire Safety Strategy?

A Fire Safety Strategy is develop for every building that is designed. It’s purpose is the protection of human life in the event of a fire. It is achieved by meeting the Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirement for the Type and Class of each specific building.

There are two approaches:

  • The Deemed-to-Satisfy (DtS) option adheres to the Building Code requirements for your building Type and Class.

  • Another option is to combine DtS with specific Performance Solutions that meet the building’s requirements.

Performance Solutions for a Fire Safety Strategy are designed by a Fire Safety Engineer and approved by the Relevant Building Surveyor (RBS) to gain a Building Permit. This process is documented through a Fire Engineering Brief (FEB) and Fire Engineering Report (FER)

Fire Engineering Brief (FEB) and Fire Engineering Report (FER)

Fire Engineering Brief (FEB) outlines the specific Fire Safety Strategy to be adopted. This is provided to stakeholder review and acceptance. After this the strategy is analysed in the Fire Engineering Report (FER) for final approval by the RBS as part of the Building Permit Application.

With two decades of experience we have found the best approach for an effective Fire Safety Strategy is to thoroughly consider the design, implementation and operational readiness of the building as well as the key objective of the project timeframe and cost.
